Because of Ari Naggar

We were inside and it was nighttime and we were waiting for dinner on a Friday night my brother was 11 and I was 5.

My brother would come from behind and yell “Boo!”
“Ahhhhhhhh!” I would yell back turning around, then he would grab me, then with both arms and then body slam me, then pin me to the ground. I could not move, then my mom would come and my brother would stop and say that I was attacking him and he was defending himself and I got in trouble. I was really mad.

Poke, poke, poke my brother was poking me in the kitchen and it was really annoying. I poked him back.
“Yaniv” Ari said “ do not poke people that is rude, for that I will slap you in the face!” he slapped me in the face and it really hurt.

“Hey Yaniv do you want to play football?” Ari asked coming toward my room.
“Sure.” I would answer that’s when we went. My brother would take the super hard football and go outside with me following and I asked, “Can I be QB?”
“No!” He would answer. I would go for a pass and he would peg it at me. I would turn around and it would hit me in the back. I would go back inside with my brother would say that I could not catch the ball.

I was walking in from my friend Eithan’s house. My brother would come over and start pushing me saying that I was so lame and that I needed him do bring me up the elevator so I would not get lost. I thought that he was wrong. I would ignore him the way up the elevator. I was mad.

A bar mitzvah is when boys turns 13 and they are now young adults and get a blessing and do all this fun stuff.

Two years later Ari was 13 and I was 7. Ari's bar mitzvah had just ended and we were driving to our apartment. I was sitting in the back while Ari and my dad were sitting in the front and talking about the bar mitzvah and about how Ari was going to get a some money, a credit card and a lot more responsibility. I was thinking maybe just maybe Ari was going to be nicer.

I was walking back from Eithan’s house again hoping just hoping that Ari would be nicer. He came over to me. I noticed he had a toy in his hand. When he came over to me he said that he had won a toy. I interrupted him and said I saw it. After that he gave the toy to me. It was super awesome.

“Hey Yaniv want to play basketball?” Ari asked walking toward my room.
“Sure” I answered. We went outside and Ari taught me a lot of things. Then we played one on one and at a point I was winning 8-7. My brother took a three and won the game 10-8 and he said that I played well but that he won.

I was running. Wow what a soccer practice that was! It was 8:10 pm and I was supposed to be done at 8:00 pm, oh was I late! I got all my stuff ready and ran where I was supposed to get picked up and my brother was waiting there in his car!
                  “Hey Ari thanks for waiting.”

The moral of the story is to be nice to your relatives. The reason for this is good things from our relatives will come back to you.

  1. Yaniv,

I loved seeing the change in your brother, and I especially love that this was important to you. Does it make you think about any changes you will make after your own bar mitzvah?

  2. What a great post. It was really vivid and I could imagine each scene, and I loved the way you understood that your big brother grew up, and that you can now have a great relationship with him. You write so well! Granny
